Screenings
Mivan Makia is an Iraqi-Kurdish filmmaker, documentary photographer, and researcher based between Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
Interested in self-portraiture and West Asian cultural expression, her artistic process relies on experimentation and interdisciplinary research to delve into the fluctuating perspectives of transient bodies. Her practice explores the links between these bodies and the landscape through memory work, geopolitical narratives and speculative fiction.
Makia has exhibited her films in festivals and screenings internationally including Canada, USA, England, Spain, France and the UAE.
She is part of a group exhibition titled ‘In Context’ currently on display at Manarat Al Saadiyat until September 3rd, 2024.
Available for commissions.
